TED x Seapoint – Who Moved my Sushi?
This past weekend I was lucky enough to attend TEDx Seapoint – Who Moved my Sushi? It was a truly inspiring event that brought light to the plight of our oceans (over 80% of the oceans fisheries are currently over-exploited) and shared solutions to protect and restore our marine resources. The speakers were change-makers from all walks of life – from big wave riders and free divers to filmmakers, artists, photographers and marine biologists. As the day progressed a common theme began to emerge – that people will only conserve what they know and love and that media has a huge role to play in creating these connections. So let’s us all share our stories of water, for it is the element that connects us…
The Power of Love
We Love You, is a campaign created by 41 yr old, Israeli citizen and Graphic Designer, Ronny Edry to help prevent a war between Israel and Iran. On March 15th, he posted a poster on Facebook. The message was simple. Iranians. We love you. We will never bomb your country.
Within 24 hours, thousands of people shared the poster on Facebook, and he started receiving messages of love and peace back from Iran. Showing the world that peace lies in the people not the politicians.
Into Eternity Film Screening
Sunday 11 March at 18h15: On the anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Into Eternity, an excellent award winning Danish documentary (in English), will be shown at the Labia on Orange. Into Eternity is a haunting, provocative and visually striking film that explores Onkalo, a nuclear waste disposal site being built in Finland, a facility that is being built to last 100,000 years as this is how long the waste remains hazardous.
Captivating, wondrous and extremely frightening, this feature documentary takes viewers on a journey never seen before into the underworld and into the future.

Chapman’s Peak Solidarity Sunset – Sunday 19th Feb: 5pm-8pm
Enough is enough. Corporate and government agendas are trying to over-rule public protest about the ugly, unnecessary office building planned for Chapman’s Peak, ignoring marches, petitions, hunger-strikers and very viable suggestions for alternatives. Murray and Roberts, with the agreement of the DA government, plan to go ahead with construction on Monday morning.
This is a call to everyone who has enjoyed the privilege of Chapman’s Peak. This Sunday let’s take back our mountain and join in solidarity to make a powerful public statement – that the toll company MUST employ a more environmentally friendly solution. Read on for the official invite.
Save Chapman’s Peak
A picture is worth a thousand words… Currently there is a large civil movement afoot to save Chapman’s Peak from development and ensure that its pristine beauty remains untouched. This breath-taking photograph of Chappies was taken by Canadian Cinematographer Martin Buzora, a passionate environmentalist who has kindly offered to donate all the profits from this photograph to aid the civil action. If you would like to find out more, sign the petition, donate to the cause or purchase a print of this photograph, follow the links below…
