To kick off our week celebrating the design solutions for small spaces, have a look at the Bookseat, a simple multi-functional bookcase that playfully curves and becomes a seat. This gorgeous design by Elie and Mani of Fishbol was developed as “a response to the advent of multifunctional spaces in today’s urban living.”
Living Chandelier
The ’38’ series is a new chandelier concept by Canadian designer Omer Arbel that dramatically combines lighting and planting. The globes are made out of blown glass and have cavaties that can hold lights or earth for small plants or cacti.

An Orphanage for Love and Care
We are really excitied to announce that the construction of the Love & Care Orphanage, in Masiphumelele township, Cape Town, is well underway thanx to the funding of the Paul Mervis Education Trust. Wow, this past weekend was so much fun. We arrived at the Expo on Friday and spent most of the day buzzing around the different exhibits. There was so much to see from eco activisim (Koeberg Alert Alliance, Treasure the Karoo and Greenpop) to very cool green tech (Elabel’s smart phone App) that we began to wonder how we would fit it all into one episode.
Then I had this crazy idea to film the expo from an electric scooter! Andy Le May of Icologie kindly agreed to drive us round and host the show! All I can say is that something really exciting was born… (stay tuned for the big reveal in 2012).
