Sunday 11 March at 18h15: On the anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Into Eternity, an excellent award winning Danish documentary (in English), will be shown at the Labia on Orange. Into Eternity is a haunting, provocative and visually striking film that explores Onkalo, a nuclear waste disposal site being built in Finland, a facility that is being built to last 100,000 years as this is how long the waste remains hazardous.
Captivating, wondrous and extremely frightening, this feature documentary takes viewers on a journey never seen before into the underworld and into the future.
Enough is enough. Corporate and government agendas are trying to over-rule public protest about the ugly, unnecessary office building planned for Chapman’s Peak, ignoring marches, petitions, hunger-strikers and very viable suggestions for alternatives. Murray and Roberts, with the agreement of the DA government, plan to go ahead with construction on Monday morning.
This is a call to everyone who has enjoyed the privilege of Chapman’s Peak. This Sunday let’s take back our mountain and join in solidarity to make a powerful public statement – that the toll company MUST employ a more environmentally friendly solution. Read on for the official invite.
A picture is worth a thousand words… Currently there is a large civil movement afoot to save Chapman’s Peak from development and ensure that its pristine beauty remains untouched. This breath-taking photograph of Chappies was taken by Canadian Cinematographer Martin Buzora, a passionate environmentalist who has kindly offered to donate all the profits from this photograph to aid the civil action. Wow, this past weekend was so much fun. We arrived at the Expo on Friday and spent most of the day buzzing around the different exhibits. There was so much to see from eco activisim (Koeberg Alert Alliance, Treasure the Karoo and Greenpop) to very cool green tech (Elabel’s smart phone App) that we began to wonder how we would fit it all into one episode.
Then I had this crazy idea to film the expo from an electric scooter! Andy Le May of Icologie kindly agreed to drive us round and host the show! All I can say is that something really exciting was born… (stay tuned for the big reveal in 2012).
Here are some pics to whet your appetite.
