Inspired by the Highline on the West Side of Manhattan, The Lowline aims transform an abandoned trolley terminal on the Lower East Side of Manhattan into the world’s first underground park. It will be a new kind of public space, using solar technology for natural illumination, and cutting edge design to capture and highlight a very special industrial space.
The masterminds behind this project are James Ramsey and Dan Barasch. They have designed a high tech system of fiber-optics to channel in natural light, a very science fiction solutions that will enable plants to photosynthesis and live underground.
